At the beginning of a new build up it is opportune to reiterate the Team’s Policy regarding missed training sessions; especially as they affect the team’s senior swimmers. Training is offered at thirteen sessions each week. How many of these sessions you choose to attend is entirely your choice. There will be no compromise on that position; no pressure will be applied to attend training.
It does need to be recognized though that achieving international results requires a build up mileage in excess of 90 kilometers each week through the build up. If you choose to miss sessions and swim less than this you cannot expect international results. If you extend the spring break into the first week of build up, if you miss one morning practice each week, if you arrive late and miss the first 1000 of each afternoon’s training and if you skip laps during training your results will be affected.
It further needs to be recognized that in terms of this specification, not one swimmer at Aquacrest has yet achieved the program’s minimum requirement; a build up mileage in excess of 90 kilometers each week through the build up. You will understand therefore why I pay no attention to comments such as "the training did not suit". How does anyone know? They have never done the training; not as it is clearly specified; a build up mileage in excess of 90 kilometers each week through the build up.
For those who say, “Ah, but 90 kilometers is too far. There’s not enough time.” I can give you the names of at least 8 swimmers I know personally who have trained over these distances. All eight competed internationally for five different countries. The training is not too far, there is enough time, for those who care to make that commitment. To come back to where we started; that commitment is for each swimmer to make. It will not be forced by the coaches.
4. HOW DOES AQUACREST COMPARE
What training sessions are offered at Aquacrest compared to other programs? We decided to look through various websites and see what other teams offered in comparison.
The table below summarizes our findings. The numbers show the sessions per week for swimming and dry land training. Some teams do not show their dry land training numbers on their websites. Where this is the case their numbers would be higher by whatever dry land training is done.
